Taranaki
About the Region
Taranaki is located on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Taranaki Maunga/Mount Taranaki and the Tasman Sea.
The city is easily accessible from Port Taranaki. You can take a convenient free shuttle service directly to the city, or opt to hop off the shuttle service outside the port gates for a pleasant 30min walk along the scenic Coastal Walkway, that leads directly to the heart of New Plymouth, taking in ocean views and public art sculptures along the way.
Whether you’re pre-booked on a tour or spending your time self-exploring, experience the vibrant, uplifting wairua (spirit) of Taranaki, a region overflowing with natural beauty and attractions.
Discover the iconic Taranaki Maunga (mountain) and world-recognised parks, take in the endless horizon of the Tasman Sea along the coastal walkway, and visit historic sites like Puke Ariki Museum to immerse yourself in rich culture and history.
Indulge in local flavours at unique dining spots, shop for treasures in diverse boutiques, and explore contemporary arts at Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre.
From the ship to shore, feel the warmth of our manaakitanga (hospitality), Taranaki welcomes you to a region like no other. And, when it comes time for you to go, we’ll send you off with a nourished, replenished, and energised spirit.
