Akaroa, Tauranga, Wellington named in Cruisers’ Choice Awards

Akaroa, Tauranga and Wellington have been named as top-rated destinations in the Cruise Critic’s 2018 Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards.

Cruise Critic is the world’s leading cruise reviews site and online cruise community, and its annual Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards name the most popular cruise destinations in 18 cruise regions worldwide.

Akaroa, Tauranga and Wellington were named in the top five of the ‘Top Rated Australia and New Zealand Cruise Destinations’ category.

Kevin O’Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of the New Zealand Cruise Association, says the award is a wonderful affirmation of the value of cruise tourism to New Zealand.

“New Zealand Cruise Association is delighted that Akaroa, Wellington and Tauranga are in the Top-Rated Australia and New Zealand Cruise Destinations category.

“This award recognises what a wonderful destination New Zealand is for cruise tourism, and why we are seeing a rise in the number of calls to our ports.”

Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards are chosen exclusively using first-hand ratings and reviews from travellers posted to the Cruise Critic website over the past year. Cruise Critic boasts more than 350,000 cruise reviews for over 300 worldwide ports.

Colleen McDaniel, Senior Executive Editor of Cruise Critic, says that while tropical destinations will always be popular worldwide, their data has shown a rise in popularity of destinations offering more immersive experiences.

“By awarding top destinations, we’re even better able to connect travellers with standout experiences available in the incredible places they’re looking to explore.”
